About the production

In her reading performance AnniKa von Trier, guided by her new book, strolls with her audience in the footsteps of Princess Wilhelmine to the original locations and investigates the riddles of the sphinxes. Why did Prince Heinrich, in 1762, have the guardian figures moved that the sculptor Friedrich Christian Glume had created in 1741?

The story, partly based on facts and partly magical fiction, brings new insights into the historical context and ends in a joyful plea for the untamed.

The performance is based on AnniKa von Trier's book of the same title, which grew out of her time as town writer of Rheinsberg. It was rehearsed in Sibiu and played in summer 2026 both outdoors, at the Sphinx staircase in the Lustgarten, and indoors, in the Hall of Mirrors of the palace, as part of “h300”, the programme marking 300 years since the birth of Prince Heinrich of Prussia.
